It also works on 64bit operating systems on all platforms. It's pretty normal to turn off last access timestamps, at least on Linux with SSDs. FreeFileSync is a free, open source folder comparison and synchronization software for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. I can't think of any reason that FFS would use the last access timestamp for anything, so can't see any reason why it would matter. But makes me wonder if maybe he was having power issues? Maybe plugged them all into the same dodgy powerboard or something? It is strange that it happened for 3 drives at once. I'm not sure how software could do that, especially if it's not running as root/administrator. Again and again, a very weird sound never heard this from an external HDD before. When FreeFileSync copied the data to that HDD, somewhere in half of the data the harddisk started to squeak and make a sound like a cricket.
